Information about ISO 3834:2021

ISO 3834 standard family was published in April 2021.
All 5 standards are affected by the new edition:
ISO 3834-1, ISO 3834-2, ISO 3834-3, ISO 3834-4 and ISO 3834-5.
The standard family ISO 3834 was revised and new issued in 2021. The structure of the family as the standards are not changed; it keeps a technical oriented standardisation which needs to be read in combination with ISO 9001:2015 and is still a very good way and opportunity to organise the welding specific tasks to gain good quality and safety products.
It is the opportunity for you to organise your welding processes, achieve high quality and make safe products. With certification, you also retain the benefit of easily demonstrating your competence and technical capabilities to interested parties.

The revision of the standards was essentially editorial. The content of the chapter “calibration and validation of measuring, monitoring and testing devices” was expanded to be more precise. References to other standards have been updated. Laser-arc hybrid welding was included.
Parallel to the standard update, the conditions for certification were revised by the
European Accreditation (EA) and published in January 2022. This includes changes that affect the certification process itself – i.e.us as the certification body. This has an impact on the process and the information to be documented on our side. If you are directly affected by this, we will contact you directly.

Transitional periods/procedure:

The following deadlines apply to the validity of the certificates:

  • Certificates issued before the publication of the standard remain valid for 3 years.
  • On March 31, 2024, all certificates according to ISO 3834:2005 will lose their validity.

A conversion (migration of the certification) to the current version can take place during each audit.
We kindly ask you to procure the new standard(s), identify and close possible gaps in your management system. Please inform us in good time before the audit, so that the migration can be included in the planning.
